What Is Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP)?
Luxury vinyl plank is a multi-layer synthetic flooring product designed to realistically mimic the look of hardwood while offering far greater resistance to water, scratches, and dents. Modern LVP uses high-resolution photographic layers under a rigid or semi-rigid wear layer — the result is visually convincing wood-look flooring that holds up in kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and commercial spaces where real wood can't go.
LVP is available in two core constructions: rigid core (SPC — stone plastic composite) and flexible core (WPC — wood plastic composite). For most Northeast homes and commercial projects, we recommend SPC for its superior dent resistance and dimensional stability across temperature swings.
LVP vs. Hardwood: Which Is Right for Your Project?
Choose LVP When:
- The installation is below grade (basement) or over concrete
- The space has high moisture risk — kitchen, bathroom, laundry room
- You have pets or young children and want maximum durability
- Budget is a priority — LVP typically costs 30–50% less than comparable hardwood
- Fast turnaround is needed — LVP floating installs are complete in 1–2 days per floor
Choose Hardwood When:
- Long-term investment matters — hardwood can last 100+ years and be refinished
- You want genuine wood underfoot (warmth, sound, feel)
- Property is high-end and buyers will notice the difference at resale
- Above-grade installation on plywood subfloor
Our LVP Installation Process
- Subfloor assessment: We check for level (LVP requires ≤3/16" over 10' for floating installs), moisture, and integrity. Concrete must be sealed if moisture tests above manufacturer specs.
- Subfloor prep: Grinding high spots, filling low spots, patching damaged concrete or plywood sections.
- Underlayment: Most SPC products include an attached underlayment — we confirm compatibility and add acoustic underlayment where sound transmission is a concern (multifamily, upper floors).
- Installation method: Floating (most common), glue-down (commercial and high-traffic), or click-lock over existing tile or hardwood (in suitable conditions).
- Transitions and trim: T-moldings, reducers, thresholds, and quarter-round are cut and installed for a clean finish at every doorway and edge.

LVP for Commercial and Multifamily Projects
LVP has become the dominant flooring choice for new multifamily construction in Connecticut and across the Northeast. Our 20+ installer crew has completed LVP installation in multifamily buildings including a recent 187-unit project in Connecticut. We work directly with general contractors and developers to phase installations by floor or building wing to keep projects on schedule.
For commercial work we use glue-down LVT rated for high-traffic environments. We're familiar with all major commercial LVT specifications and can match hotel, retail, office, and healthcare grade requirements.
